Daft question but can anyone tell me the correct way to plumb up the heater matrix on a 1987 mini. I have the heater valve on right hand side of block, pipes getting hot but no heat coming through blowers, plus it's a new heater matrix and valve and pipes so no blockage or air locks. All help aprechated

The heater valve should be on the left hand side of the head as you look at the engine (like being stood in front of the car looking down onto the engine). One pipe goes from this to the corresponding side of the heater unit, the other pipe attaches to the opposite side of the heater unit and goes through the bulkhead and joins the bottom radiator hose.

Both my heater matrix pipes are on the same side chris. You r right in the left side. I was sat in car writing this hence right side. Lol. Should the valve pipe be at top of matrix or bottom, which way does the water circulate is it pushed into matrix via valve or from bottom hose?

Ok first thing. If you put your hand inside the heater you should be able to touch the matrix through the flap. Is it hot? If so then check that the control flap is operating correctly, then check the fit of the pipes to the dash vents, these can be quite loose -insulation tape is good to seal these gaps. Then check the actual demist vent funnel thingy. These usually warp and and most of the air flow is lost in the upper dash rail. I clamped some alloy angle round mine to straighten them out
Last thing to remember. The heater will run cooler when the cars stationary
Hope that this helps

Hi
its pushed into matrix via valve
and that's the hot side
I think it should go to the top of the heater
