I'm looking and replacing my exhuast and manifold on my 94 cooper spi. I was wondering about if its best to keep the cat in the configuration or just sod it and put on a lcb, straight thru link pipe and back box? What pointers should i consider when making this decision?

the fact you wont pass an MOT without one on a 94 should be a pretty heavy factor.....

its only after 92 you have a visual cat check on the MOT. my 89 Porsche had a cat as standard, but I can remove it (and have done) because that doesn't apply. the only thing then is to get the emissions down low enough.
So the advice you had is "technically" correct, just not for your car.
