Hello just been for MOT failed on foglight not working or the warning light switch when switched on.

I have pulled out the switch and (with lights on) i get a 12v reading. If i switch meter so it reads if you touch the lines together, I connected to rear of switch and it reads as if there is a circuit.

At rear of car i disconnected the two wires on the lamp and again when in on position it reads 12v, I have also checked the bulb in lamp holder and thats ok aswell, tried with the rear heated windscreen switch and still no difference.

The in line fuse holder seems fine aswell so ????????????????????????????????

Thanks

If you have 12v back at the centre pin of the bulb holder then it points to a bad earth, so replace the bulb give the holder a temp earth from batter - in boot if it comes on there is your answer. Remove and clean up original earth connection.

I have seen some where the earth fault is in the holder itself so check that for condition

More than likely the earth. This can be the actual surround (holder) in which the bulb fit, they are awful, they work then they don,t then they do then they don,t.

Works when the lens is off, then doesn,t when it is on, so spasmatic. As long as you are getting power on the positive side in the boot area, to memory I think it is blue and yellow wire. then you just need a better earth. It,s all because it gets loads of muck and water chucked at it constantly.

To memory there is an inline fuse too under the bonnet, towards passenger side ish just after the half way mark tucked up with the lights and wiper wire loom.

Hope that helps, Neil.
