hi guys,

car: 1993 spi, carb converted.

my top fuse keeps blowing after i passed an arctic rig on the motorway (in severe rain), the indicators worked for around 5 miles... then no indicators

hazards work as they should,

i have no indicators, brake lights, rear screen demist or anything else powered off the top fuse..

we changed the top fuse, along with both relays(rh yellow one(nearest wiper motor and the one under dash)

cleaned the earths on both front indicator units along with drying them out...

it worked until about half an hour ago....

my dad had stripped my L/H rear brakes down for a clean up(it was binding)

then i decided i'd best take the car a run for a few miles to allow the wheel and brake shoes to settle...

whilst out on the run i noticed i had no indicators or rear screen demist

i have since checked the wiring and checked the front indicators for water ingress.. all is good

so my question to you all is... why does it keep blowing the top fuse(standard 4 fuse box

i will try everything... excluding setting it on fire lol

I would think from your description its one of the circuits  on Fuse 1 and may not be related to the water ingress? Isolate each circuit from the fuse box to find which one is actually causing the issue going to ground. then check the wiring for shorts and the components they feed.

These are not the easiest of faults to find and take a bit of time, work through it and take your time. If it proves to be on the indicators I usually slip the bulbs out and check the fiber insulator on the centre pins are ok, also check the connections behind the grill have not got a partial exposed bullet earthing out.

thanks again Dave! i've got my friend coming to help with the car tonight, i'll try those first!

ive been thinking, surely it must be a live thats earthing, causing the car to blow said fuse?!

Sure is a live feed shorting to earth causing the problem, way I find those problems is use my sealey tester and use it to feed each wire a new feed and the circuit that trips circuit breaker is your circuit. Trouble is unless your doing electrics all the time most dont have the tester.
