Okay, so i have a Pre verto clutch in my 998, with a stage 1.

oh and  i have searched for the subject but couldnt find what i wanted.

Just got it all set up, running the best it ever has with power i didnt know it had!

but for the past few months it had been slipping slightly, now the engine is running better its slipping a lot more, so it needs sorting.

Looking it some of the clutch plates available, i would like one slightly better than a standard one just incase i carry on modding the engine.

I have seen a turbo clutch plate, may seem silly putting one of them on it but though if its possible why not?

So my question is, which clutch plates are best? can i put a performance one on a standard pre verto clutch?

Thanks, Jamie

The std Mini clutch plate is what they put in the Turbo's anyway. For 95% of 998's, the standard kit (which also fits the 1275's) will be more than up to the job, see our number GCK100AF

Agree with Simon - I had the same standard clutch plate in a 1301cc Mayfair which had 79bhp and similar torque. Never had any issues with it.

note that my gears are nearly always difficult to change down, grinding when going into reverse every time, always topped with oil, any solutions? clutch in general maybe?

Check the primary gear oil seal for leaks. Could be oil on friction plate causing slipping. Also set up the 2 adjustments correctly on re-assembly.

if its slipping and struggling to change down, is it more likely to be oil leak? or new clutch needed?

If there is oil leaking then you will need a new friction plate. Also some brake cleaner to remove the oil from the other metal surfaces etc

Difficulty in selecting gears could be due to poor set up, requiring adjustment. As it is slipping you need to get it apart to investigate. Put it right as you rebuild it. New seal, new friction plate, adjust it, maybe bleed hydraulics.
