Hi all,

Recently I have been having issue with my 1999 MPi. She will be running fine and pretty normal (I know she has a sensor issue somewhere but waiting for my ACR4) but  sometimes when I come to start her she turns over but never fires. I have checked all the normal things but everything seems ok.

It happened again tonight and I have been trying a few things and have come up with a common denominator "the fuel inertia cut off" If i knock it hard to "activate" the switch and turn her over she will fire first time I then run and push the ball bearing back in on the switch and she stays running. This seems to work every time, at this point I assume this is my issue. But I can't seem to find a MPi replacement only a SPi replacement.

What do my fellow mini owners think of my diagnostics? and does any one know where I might get a replacement? I have checked all the usual suspects.

To confirm your diagnosis, when the car doesn't start rather than knocking the switch around bridge it and see if it does start to confirm that the inertia switch is faulty (could be just a loose wire?).
AFAIK the MPI and SPI fuel cut offs are the same, part number WQT100030' see here on somerford mini site https://www.somerfor...oducts_id=14398

FlyingScot,

Thats my exact thought, my next move is just to bridge it.

I was looking on minispares though and they have two separate units. The one for MPI says it activates which sudden acceleration or an accident and the other one for Spi says it activates on sudden deceleration.

Im happy to use WQT100030 though if this is the fault.

Missed that on minspares  Have a look at what's fitted for clues, I would email Simon at Minispares and ask since they list both and for £7 difference better to replace like for like IMHO.
