I've got a Clarke Pro 90 mig welder and it has major issues.

It isn't delivering anywhere near enough power, on low it's enough to make the wire glow, on full it kind of melts it, but no penetration.

I did some tests with a multi meter and the continuity and resistance is fine but on full it is reading 20 amps.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

All the ground and connections seem fine!

Personally Carlos i would bin it and move up to a 135TE, it could be down to the circuit board having issues but then unless you speak to the Clarke tech guys it could be a guessing game.

The issue is, I've got about 20 minutes of welding to do on the car!

I'm not really willing to spend loads of money on a new unit!

I've bid on another one on Ebay which is apparently spares or repairs, so as long as it hasn't got the same problem I'll swap parts over!

I find owning a mini means a welder comes in handy more than you would like it seems. I also find loads of jobs at home where a welder helps out. I have a 135TE and they are a perfect 'hobby' machine. Anyone local who could loan you one for a couple of days?

I've bid a tenner for one on Ebay, just hoping it hasn't got the same issues!

I suppose I could hire one for a day!

That's really nice of you, thanks!

The only issue would be transporting the car!

Hopefully I'll win this one on eBay and I can swap some parts over and all will be well!

I only paid 50 quid for it and I've had my moneys worth

Thanks Neil,

Do you want to finish the car for me too?

It needs reinforcements for the solid mounts, and some little pieces made for the scuttle edge and welded in!

Thanks mate, but I'm on a course for the next fortnight so couldn't get the time off!

I think the welder has a faulty diode, I'll test them and see if I'm right, then hopefully I can just replace it or them.

I need a welder in my life to removed bearings etc!
