my dad sorted this... the reverse light switch has been shorting on the exhaust!!

Ah, a common cause of blown fuses, and it often only happens when the engine rocks a bit, as it does when driving, so it can be a right pain to find. Well done your dad, for spotting it.

it was weird as it would be fine for days then just suddenly blow a fuse... he's temporarily disconnected the reverse light wiring until i rotate the exhaust away from the switch
