once again :D , my little car is giving me grief. i brought her home from work on monday, put her straight in the garage, and yesterday morning when i go to start her up to go to work, i turn the key, and get absolutly nothing, my ignition comes on because my heater starts up. but apart form that nothing, the engine doesnt even make a sound. this problem happened a few months back, and after a bit of beat to the starter motor it worked.

but this time round it dont want to know. i can get it going every time bump starting it. but once your turn it off, and try to start, im back to square one.
:'(
there is me taking the 20-30 min walk to work in the mean time. :D

suggestions would be much appriciated

:D* cheers in advance

HT leads bugged. coil bugged. starter moduel bugged.

if theres no noise could be a bad ground or the starter modles had it. iff you got one that is. don't know if its diffrent on later cars compaired to my 1982.

Adam, stop trying to give advice! Please explain to be how HT leads or a coil (ignition components) could effect the starting system?

No offence but you really are talking complete *******!

Dunk, can you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key?

just trying to be helpful Mr Sam.

i'll go off and die in a ditch then.

edit.

before that, Dunk if its a click try guiving the starter motor a good clonk or two with a rubber mallet. see if that works. could be stuck is all.

When the starter motor gets stuck and needs a bit of gentle persuasion to release it.....what aspect is it that is stuck? starter teeth misaligned to flywheel, can't spin, or starter teeth stuck into the body of starter i.e not moved outwards to line up with flywheel?

I hope you didn't take offence Adam....sounded VERY unoffensive!

Does the starter relay give a single click? It could be the relay? As was mine!

You tried jump starting it?

Big Adam: You don't need to go and die in a ditch, but please make sure you fully understand something before you give advice about it.

If it is continous clicking when you turn the key that is a common sympton of low voltage. like jammy said see if you can jump start it. if it is constant clicky then my money would be on your battery.

I'm having the same problem with mine now and again. I've been reading the haynes comic and was thinking I might have some dodgy conections at the starter solenoid or something like that. Where abouts is the relay?
