Hi There, after just sorted out my slow/weak indicators, they are now fast,

i know this is because ive removed the side repeaters from my car and putting a bulb in sorts this out however i dont wish to have side repeaters, am i able to add a resistor to sort this, if so what resistance ? or any other way ?

cheers

Are all the bulbs ok? If one bulb blows it causes the other to flash quickly.

I think the only UK Mini you can legally remove the side repeaters from is an 1100 Special. From 1985 all cars had to have them and it is an MOT item.

Just hang the bulbs in side the wing instead

This is what the testers manual says

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side.   Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens.

Yes, you can put a resistor in.   Use a 25W, 3.5 ohm resistor in each circuit (left and right), wired in series with on of the existing bulbs would be fine or shove into the socket of the bulb you are wanting to eliminate.   It will calm your flash rate right down.

Or simply change the flasher unit to gfu2124

buy a new flasher relay , the one you will have will be rated at 2x21w+5w you just want 2x21w relay it is seeing the 5w resistance missing so flashing fast .

When I installed my new loom last year it came with connectors for side repeatrers and I dont have any, so I cut the wires, joined them and used a 2 * 21w relay as above, works fine. I have seen some people use an electronic one from a Fiesta which solves a lot of the problems associated with the physical metal relay types.

Cut the wires and joined them? Can you clarify exactly what you mean please as that could be quite dangerous advice if taken wrong.

Yep, so where the wires go into the plug for the side repeater, cut that off, and joined the wires to complete the circuit. Seems to work fine for the past year ish. Is it incorrect?

You joined the two wires at the bulb holder? If you mean the green is now connected to the black that's very wrong, you've created a dead short. If this were a constantly powered circuit there could well have been a fire so it's a good thing it's on the indicators as they are intermittent. If you want to do away with them just pull the bulb and tape or preferably heat shrink the holder to insulate it, then securely tape the leads back in a loop so they can't fall down. And as above swap the flasher unit.

Thats assuming any mods done are on a car before the MOT regulation say the vehicle must have side repeaters, the OP will come back with the registered age of the vehicle, and then its either a mod or refit the repeaters

Just checked it now as its been a while! On the driver side I joined the green/white wires and left the black cut and taped back, and on the passenger the same, so green/red joined and then cut the black and taped back.

I recall when I was doing this the front indicators did not work, but I had forgot to join the wires after I cut the blub holder off. I dont know why I did not just tape them back now, must have been a reason, maybe too much cable to tie back!
