My '74 Mini has an ignition switch steering column lock feature.  The ignition key hangs up in the lock cylinder, and it is difficult to remove.  I have tried to lubricate the mechanism with silicone spray without success.  Minispares doesn't appear to offer a replacement part.  I am considering simply replacing it with a old style dash-mounted ignition switch (Mk1, Mk2, early Mk3).  Would someone kindly post a picture of the old style switch location for my reference?

Thanks.

The wiring on the switch is different and its located centre of the switch panel on the earlier cars, Minispares list a Ignition Switch for cars though from 76- which I'm sure could be adapted http://www.minispare...|Back to search

But fitting it would require cowling mods

But SomefordMini list one item 83 here https://www.somerfor...age=page&id=86

But clicking on buy says obsolete

looks like ebay ? or a modification

Did the later Canadian cars not have seatbelt / ignition interlocks? Could it be something to do with that holding the key in place? Silicone spray will gum up a lock, and may also trickle down and short the switch. Locks should be dry lubricated with graphite powder or maybe a modern dry PTFE spray, give this a go first.

I found the picture below online (not my car) it shows the ignition switch in the middle of the switch panel.
