hi all,

i hava a 1984 austin mini 25 998cc. its an ongoing restoration project but i have reached a crossroads with what to do with the engine. id like to get the bhp up to about 70-80 however all the research i have done suggests not bothering tuning a 998cc and simply swapping for a 1275cc. if cost wasnt an issue i would change the engine however im unsure as to which route would be cheapest. any advice welcome

thanks,

mish

You can get close to that with your existing 998cc and it may prove more reliable in long run (well that's my experience of 35 years anyway).

If the 998 is in good condition then the addition of a decent head and maybe a cam change will make a really big difference, combine it with a good quality inlet and exhaust setup and you will have a great little combination.

Thats going to be a 998 engine is a fairly high state of tune, depends what the vehicles going to be used for? and then there is the cost to get the 998 to that power. What spec were you building to and at what costs on the 998 small bore engines
