I have a mini cooper R56 engine that has done 90,000 miles.   It has been serviced every 15K miles and we bought it from new.  At the last service the timing chain was replaced and a full oil service undertaken,  8 weeks later the clutch went and that has been replaced.  Two weeks ago ( 8 weeks after the service), the engine management light came on and when the garage checked the oil there was none there.  This has meant the solenoid valve and unit has had to be replaced.   Has anyone had a similar problem?   I know that the car is old but it has been very well cared for and we have never had a problem with the oil before.  There are no leaks at all and I am wondering what could be causing it?

Might be better asking over on a new MINI forum.  This ones mainly for classics.

However, engines can burn oil, like my Integra for example......and I suspect that's whats happening to your Mini.  Could be valve stem seals/guides or even piston oil control rings in the engine itself.

MINIS do use oil a little more than other modern engines, My mums 'S' certainly does!

However 8 weeks isnt very long at all to use all the oil! I would definitely take a look at the plugs, see if its burning oil (they will be blacker than Satans sphincter) and if so then it needs looking at

Check if its really loosing oil, these engines use oil but not that much, maybe the garage forgot to fill up to level..

15k is too long interval for oil change, your engine is full of crud anyway, plus those engines have problems with the injectors and carbon build up, why BMW put irrealistic service intervals?..

Yes, 15k is far too long. I change the oil in our S every 6k, by which time the oil is black anyway. But ours uses no oil at all so I don't know about that.
