Hi there,

A couple of months ago my heater fan motor packed up and recently, due to the cold miserable weather, I have tried to get it replaced. Unfortunately, even though I bought a couple of fan motors (the first one had a different bracket), both of them seem to be of a different size to the original one thus they do not fit. This is really annoying me since my mechanic was not able to fit it and the car becomes really misty inside, and it makes it hard to see out. Here is a photo for comparison:

The top is the new unit (which is 19cm) and the bottom is the original (at 17.5cm). I really need some advice about this; is there anywhere which sells my type of fan, or would I have to get it repaired?

Many thanks, Alex

From that pic there's differences between the two, are you sure they're compatible units?

I think that is the point of his question, they are not compatible.

The links below may help, assuming that there is some way of identifying which heater assembly it is:

Ah, my bad, must read properly!

There's been a few threads about aftermarket, smaller heaters recently, if you can't find what you want those aftermarket heaters look a very viable alternative and something I'll go for when the time comes, I've just had mine all apart and serviced and is working perfectly though!

Yes, aftermarket and kit car heaters are worth a look, and some claim very impressive performance. The only snag I see is that many don't have a plenum on the inlet side, and draw in cabin air into a bare heat exchanger, so they are most easily used in recirculating mode, but that can the fixed with some metalwork or GRP etc, to match up to the Mini's air intake trunking.

There is no need to stick to normal Mini parts in areas where technology has moved on a long way since 1959.

Some suppliers (Google for more):

Hi, thanks for everyones replies! :) I did have a look at aftermarket heaters, but I find that they would be too much of a hassle to fit and I would like to keep an original look to the interior. Does anyone know where I can find a direct replacement motor for my car (the bottom one in the photo) since I've tried everywhere, and I've spent too much money on the two which don't fit! Could I get the motor repaired by any chance??

Thanks for all of your help by the way! Many thanks, Alex :)

I would like to upgrade my heating system (because its pants), but would also like to keep the original look to the interior. Are there any upgraded heater motors which I can buy and would fit into my heater housing?

Alex :)
