Welcome to TMF. they leak out of everywhere lol but selector seal at the back of the gearbox is very common.

As above gear selector or driveshaft.

Is it a Mainstream or RSP?

I don't know the deference, but its all black and chrome, and has a soft top roof which can be retracted.

It can also leak oil from the timing case cover at the bottom and and from the primary oil seal behind the flywheel.

Normal culprit is the selector seal which can be replaced fairly easily.

Hi

Has the chassis number got the letters BAD in it? If so then it's an RSP. Have a look at the link to the RSP Register at the bottom of my posts.

RSP chassis number is SAXXNNAMBAD...... the dots are the numbers.

About 1,000 RSP were made. About 19,899 Mainstream Coopers were made so the RSP is a lot rarer.

Nice chart from http://www.mainstreamcooper.co.uk/

If it is not burning oil and just a small drip..... Keep an eye on the drips and ask mot person to explain or to have a look yourself...whilst on the ramp.....

If really worried then get in there with some cleaner and then drive round the block and re check....

I see you are in Denmark; maybe this has something to do with the lack of info on your registration documents.

My UK doc says Model = Mini Cooper

The chart above gives you info on the model via the VIN.

Why do you think it is a Cooper? A 1 litre engine suggests it's a Mini City or Mini Mayfair or any of the special editions based on them. There is nothing wrong with that though. All Minis are great.

The models available in 1990 apart from the RSP Cooper and Mainstream Cooper were the City, Mayfair, and the special edition Racing Green, Flame Red, Checkmate and Studio 2. The Checkmate was black with a white roof. The Studio 2 was available in black and had large decals on the doors. I do not think I have ever seen a Studio 2.

well it says cooper on the gear nob and on the steering wheel. so i just assume that its a cooper. and the pistons are red and says mini-sport. the only thing on it that could tell anything about the model is the roof, it has a big soft top.
