Hi all,

Just a quick one. Some of you already know that I've converted my Rover 114 from Automatic to manual. I need to tell the DVLA before I put the car back on the road. Is it as simple as filling out the form that comes with the V5 and sending it off? I guess I'll then need to get an Engineer to sign it off which is no problem.

When I then apply for quotes online and it searches for my vehicle, will it come up as manual and hence there is no need to declare the change to the insurer?

Thanks,

Craig

Did this with my Mini, but the DVLA changed it to 1330cc and left it as an auto - so gave up trying to get it changed and just tell the insurer now.

Doesn't effect my insurance as the car is so modified!

You will need to inform your insurer that you changed the transmission from auto to manual as even though the spec has changed on the DVLA records, it is still a modification.

When I recently declared my engine change for my mini from a 998 auto to a 1275 manual I had a local garage write me a letter on a header paper confirming the change had took place,

I also wrote the change on the V5 itself by crossing out "AUTO" and writing down "MANUAL", My new V5 came back all correct and they had also removed the wording "AUTO" from the new V5 too.

In the meantime while I was awaiting the arrival of my new V5 I declared the change with my insurance company explaining the engine and gearbox change and the fact I was waiting for the new V5. Best to be safe than sorry by letting the insurance company know your situation.
