Hey, im looking at returning my mini30 to original spec,
and the previous owner had fitted a 1275 engine to it.

Found an engine, on a drum brake equipped subframe, so dunno how suitable it is.

its block code is no longer legible, and i cant find data for the head casting numbers it is the following:

CAM 4810

can anyone please help me? as i would love to buy the engine soon if would be a suitable
replacement. i found reference in MINI world magazine to a CAM 4180, which i
believe to be a A+ engine, but the motor with the drum brake subframe i found in the barn was definately
CAM 4810

help much much appreciated!!

The CAM* casted heads are generic A+ small bore heads. The mini30 ran with one of the first unleaded 998's (99HD81) I believe...

cheers for that

so the engine in the old subframe is likely to be an A+?

and will fit my mini30 with no mods?

sorry im new to mini's!!

im aware my mini originally came with an unleaded head, but as this engine is being offered to me at a good price i will use it if i can!

so in summary the engine with the CAM 4810 head should be no trouble?

because id heard stories of bypass hoses needing to be put in and other various stuff with different aged engines which was keen to avoid.

thanks

If its a metro engine, it will NOT have a bypass hose. If its a mini engine then it WILL have the bypass hose. That'll be the easiest way to identify if its a mini or a metro engine. Then as GuessWorks says about the engine numbers

depends on the year.some 998 A+ engines were i think from about 90 onwards and the mini 30 was U/L like Guessworks said.

My late 89' City has an unleaded head in it, as far as I know it was 'born' with it :proud:
