Hi,

Recently my mini Sprite (1995) has started shuddering whilst driving, the problems been getting worse over the past few days but now it shudders and shakes uncontrollably in any gear. this happens when i press the accelerator trying speed up but when i remove my foot off the accelerator it seems to stop until i press the pedal again. when i do this the engine seems to act like its going to cut out when in a low gear.

The mini also has a tendency to stall whilst driving out and about, when i near traffic lights and put the clutch down it seems to lose revs and stall, however this has not been a large issue as i can just turn the key and start it straight back up, i've taken it to a mechanic who's a friend of mine and hes not really sure what the problem is,i would be grateful if i could get some outside advice on this problem

Thanks

Scott

How's the idle?  Is that all over the place too?

The cutting out at lights happened to me a while back, other symptoms was a hunting idle and over-fueling - this all traced back to the vacuum tubes and joints splitting between the ECU, fuel trap and the inlet manifold.

Have a read through this thread - http://www.theminifo...oint-injection/

May be of some help to you! :)

Shuddering on any Mini can also be due to worn or broken top or bottom engine steadies, engine mounts, or front subframe mounts, even a loose exhaust. Fortunately none of these are hugely expensive, and a genuine Mini expert (most mechanics nowadays, however competent, don't have much Mini experience) will be able to spot problems with them very quickly. If it cuts out too, it can sometimes be caused by the main battery cable momentarily shorting to something, usually the hot exhaust, if it is not clipped up properly and the engine is rocking.

There are of course all the other issues already suggested, which can upset the proper running of the engine.

Mine does this too, most noticeably going into second from first. I was planning to look at this when the weather improves. I will keep on eye on this thread. Let me know how you get on.

thanks for the link and the suggestions, they've really help in trying to solve the problem, the engine is a little loose but I've discovered that the main problem is the timing on the engine, i had an M.O.T 2 weeks back and an air filter that ran from the inlet manifold to spi was replaced due to it splitting, since then its set the engine slightly out of balance and i think the previous owners didn't tune the engine right when the installed a new exhaust and carburetor, i'm taking it in to the garage tomorrow, ill let you know if the problem is found
