What is the general thought on installing door pocket speakers? I am replacing my entire audio system, both rear speakers, radio unit, and want to add two more speakers up front. I am also thinking about adding a small subwoofer/amp under the rear seat. I want to system to look like it was factory fit and not aftermarket.

I found door pocket speaker pods on ebay bolt-on-bits. Are they any good?

My brother had the bolt on bits door pockets in his Mini. They take a larger size speaker than the Metro door pocket which only took a 4" speaker.

They're OK, but the sound is directed at your legs which isn't ideal.

Good afternoon,

We always recommend keeping speakers off the front doors, two reasons:

- Weight, you don't really want to be adding weight to the Mini front doors.
- Positioning - as above, they fire the sound at your ankles.

We recommend hanging them from the bottom dash rails: LINK

Hope that helps.

Thanks

If you build your own door pods you can set them at any angle you wish.

Thanks for all of the replies! I cannot mount on lower dash rails as car has custom air con system. I want whatever I do to look factory fit.

What do I do?

Also for a sub? Under the rear seat? A bass tub free standing or something built in?

You'll want some Metro door pockets then. They look almost identical to the Mini ones bit have a speaker enclosure in them. I have a set if you want some. I've fitted a pair of 2 ways in the eyeball vents, I don't run slot of bass through them and use them more like tweeters and let my 6x9's/subwoofers do the hard work. I've used a 6x9 speaker board under the rear seat with Vibe QB69's, they're more of a 6x9 sized subwoofer than conventional 6x9 and give good bass when setup right with a decent amp.

Not necessarily, there are some on ebay for the Mini, however they are £60.

I will be getting some, as the pods under the dashboard frankly just look terrible, even though that is the best positioning with regards to audio.

But the OP said he wanted it to look factory fit, the ones on eBay don't look factory fit.
