Im sure this has been covered before, but, where are the common places water gets into the cabin?
My car is dry in the back and the passenger front, but I get a small lake forming in the drivers foot well. I don't want my floor rotting out, so could do with sorting it, so on my 97/8 MPI cooper sport sp where does water commonly get in?
Thanks James

Could be from the windscreen. If the scuttle is rusty the it's common for rain water to get in here. Also from the fitch panel where the fresh air vent is.
I have water in my passenger footwell when in rains but this comes from a poorly fitting door.
Best thing is to do is take up carpets, get in the car the get a mate to spray water on the car whilst you're in it. You''l soon see where it's coming from.

The windscreen seal, the door seal, the door check strap seal, & around the fresh air vent duct where it passes through the flitch panel.

I strongly second the check of the scuttle panel. I have seen this rot on a number of late model Minis, including my own. Do not procrastinate in checking this out, especially if you see any sign of paint bubbling around the scuttle. If you catch it soon enough, you may be able to do a cheap repair and refinish/seal the rest of the scuttle to prevent future decay. But if you wait, you might end up having to do major sheet metal work, with the worst case being that you have to replace the whole scuttle. I was able to salvage my scuttle panel but had to replace the dash crossmember, which had too much rot.

My Spi was horrendous for leaks when I first got it. The areas where I found it to be leaking were all the door and window seals, boot seal and the grommets on the scuttle as well as the A pillars (door check bits). My cure was new door check seals, boot, door and side window seals. I also put a smear of black silicon in the groove of the grommets on the scuttle and also a very thin bead of silicon around the front and rear windows as a temporary measure until fit new rubbers which I will do when I have the car repainted. The car is now as snug as a bug and water tight!
