Putting new head on my 1275, but, as the title suggests, I pulled all the pushrods out of my head not realising I should've kept em in an order to put them all back in the same places.
What shall I do? Are they different lengths or what?
Thanks guys..
Craig.

Bugger! Thought all the pushrods were the same...

they should all be the same length, but its best to keep them in the same order as they would have worn in with the cam followers and rockers, unless your using new followers and rockers

There are differences in the pushrods of smaller and larger bore engines, but not if you have the "original" pushrods for your motor (if you get my meaning?)
But as Si says, it is better to keep the pushrods marked to keep them, the followers and the rockers. There will always be a slight variation in the length due to manufacturing tolerances, but that is why you are able to adjust the tappet clearances (aswell as accounting for valve wear, rocker wear, compression heights etc etc.)

Thanks for the help guys.
Gonna bung em back in as they are for now. Getting a set of 1.5:1 roller rockers shortly so I'll put a new set of pushrods in when I fit them.
Craig.

Woundnt have thought it would make a massive amount of difference now that its done, I mean, if you fit a new set then they will have to wear a little to take the shape of the seat in the follower, just like the old ones would in the wrong follower. Just keep an eye on the clearancies. I doubt you realy need a new set unless any of them are bent.
It just general, accepted, engineering practice to put things back where the originaly were because compnents wear and seat together. It doesn't mean they are a different length.

I've made that mistake (although i did put them in order but then stepped in the tray i was keeping them in D'oh
) u just gotta re-adjust the tappet clearances and then check em a few miles or hundred miles later. sure there will be slight differences, emphasis on slight just adjust to suite(?) (dont think thats how its spelt) yeah so anyway shouldn't be a major problem.

As has already been indicated, just set the clearances when the heads on the car and torqued down, then check them again after 30mins or so running. Set them again after 100 miles and all should be good, just follow your usual maintenance schedule from now on, this also applies if you've changed the rockers or the followers.
