Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone here has fitted one of these consoles in their car and if so what the fit is like... do they just slot over the gear lever and under the dash rail without any modifications? I've seen plenty in later Minis / Rover Coopers etc but was wondering whether it would sit right in my Mk2 with it's earlier style plastic covered heater...?

Thinking of getting one for the Mk2 and finishing it to match the all black interior (and maybe fititng a CD player in it) but also thinking ahead to my next possible project which might be an early Mk3... any thoughts ladies and gents...?

Cheers in advance... ;D

I do not think that a Custom Console would fit a MK2. The slot for the heater would not be big enough and would obscure the downward heater control lever. Also I think the offset of the MK2 gear lever is greater then a car with the squared off transmission tunnel. I'd have a search of the web for some centre console plans and modify them to suit the Mk2 heater and gear lever.

By the way, I have a Custom Console in my Rover Mini and it fitted quite easily.

Many thanks surfblue63 ;-)

Might still consider one for the next project then, cheers.

I had one in the ritz before, I found it made the inside feel alot smaller and got in the way.

The ones from the likes of custom consoles, although pricey, still look very home made to me which can quickly cheapen an entire interior.
