I have the type of temp gauge in the link below but the temp gauge never moves so either my engine isn't getting hot (which I doubt) or something is wrong. I have found a purple cable with black line dangling down but in the Haynes manual it says its for the horn push which works so Im wondering could the mysterious purple cable with black line be the temp gauge or not?

I could be wrong but I thought purple/black was door contractors but some one should be able to varfiy that for u
If the gauge isn't working it may be the sensor in the engine block that's at fault

It's a sensor in the cylinder head, on the right hand side of the engine, below the thermostat housing and above the engine number plate.

Unless it's an SPi, the sender on them is under the inlet manifold.
