it an inlet for your heater.
Stick a filter over it, least you'll get clean-ish air coming in then!

dunno what you've done to it though, its a right mess! There should be a plastic "elbow" that takes air from the front duct and splits it to the face vent and the heater. That one looks like its been ripped apart though! (and doesn't even look like plastic! But the photos not exactly clear)

I presume we are talking about the hole in the inner wing. Isnt that hole too far back to be for the air intake for the heater/ air vents?

Like a certain"Dan" once said. everything on a mini is supposed to be there. If you take things off indiscriminately then things on your mini will start to not work!!

SOrry I was thinking that that was the hole that is further forward into the engine bay that has the plastic 90 degree bend on it to collect air from the grill. But it isnt its the hole that is connected to the plastic 90 degree collection piece by a bit of flexable ducting.
Personally I would keep it if at all posible cause in moderen cars if you use the heater on recirculate rather than from air from outside the car, after a while the windows start to mist up again cause the air gets moist from you breatihing it in and out. Also its nice to not have to have the fan on all the time to get warm air which you will have to do if you get rid of that hole.
