I have put on a stage 1 tune kit to my 998cc mini 1985 B reg and now HIF type carb doesn't fit back on!?

It fouls the bulkhead!

Has anyone had the problem before and how do i rectify it?

Many thanks

I'm assuming this is a fitting issue rather than the hif carb resting on the bulkhead when fitted?

It can be very tight, try taking off the top engine steady temporarily and pulling engine forward a bit that may give you enough clearance to fit and extracting the manifold studs - if not you could take out any spacer blocks you have between carb & manifold.....

Did you tell whoever you brought your stage 1 kit off that it was for a 998 with an HIF - just maybe there's and alternative manifold... I've got an old aftermarket bfe manifold supplied with a kit that will no way accommodate an HIF.....

(One extreme solution - fir an spi front s/f the engine sits further forward.....ok overkill maybe not!)

yes its a bit of a known issue with the smaller block 998s as the block is a bit shorter than the 1275, and some of the aftermarket manifolds are quite long I believe the later cars had the engine sitting forward in the subframe. The MG Metro manifold for the HIF is shorter and water heated so maybe a answer for you, other than that depending on how much it is you could use a adjustable top mount to gain a small clearance, not I'm a fan of jacking it forward

Cheers guys!

I Have since tried to put it back with the spacers out but have found out that the abutting plate is the one for the HS kind not the HIF so i have ordered a propper HIF as the HS kind had a bent lip on it to hold the choke spring on i assume?

As soon as the plate arrives everything should be straight forward.....
