Originally I fitted a bonnet scoop as a means of getting cold air flowing into the carburetors. It helped drop the engine temperature when the engine was running hot in the summer, and it felt like I had a very slight increase in power, but I've grown to dislike the look of it!

I've also considered running some air duct tubing with a ram pipe from the grill up towards the carburetors with some venting cut into the A panels.

Anyone got any other suggestions, or experience i'd love to know if this stuff will actually make much of a difference.

I'm not an expert but...

Think it would be better from the front as there is no ram effect from the 'A' panels and the air may even be drawn out rather than in.

I would say that a sealed system would be better so the air going in to carbs is just cold and no warm air drawn from the engine bay, the carbs draw lots and lots of air and get it from where ever then can so hot air from the back of the engine gets in there as well.

Hot air is blown out of the engine bay by cold rushing through grill but engine shields the very hot exhaust manifold and that's where the carbs draw air from.

I'm sure there will be an expert along with loads of stuff he's read in a book to say I'm talking rubbish but my drag Mini went better with a dedicated cold air feed from the front

Im sure there was some tests on this.

If i remember right, a "ram air" type system with ducting provided very little improvement.

Not the ram air effect that helps its the cold air that improves combustion

All car manufacturers draw cold air from front of vehicle

Yeah thats what I mean. Im sure someone had done tests on it afew years ago. Standard carb and filter verus carb with cold air intake ducting etc. Sure the outcome was it wasnt worth doing...ill see if i can dig it out.

I read on here that engine temp above 20mph is the same as the front of the car so no real affect correct me if I'm wrong

Yes, you cant ram air in fast enough just with road speed but if the carb can only draw air from the outside of the engine bay then it will go better, no good directing a cold air pipe at the filter because that isn't enough, the carb will still draw hot air from engine bay as well, warming the drawn in air.

Does that make sense?

NACA ducts on the bonnet in the right place would ram air in
