Depends what controller you have, can you alter your tick over on your controller? I usually set it high (wheels of the ground) then back it off till the wheels stop moving, other wise you need to alter the rod that connects to the carb to allow the tick over to increase.

A bit hard to explain via typing, hope it makes sense

Could be fuel mixtures, depending on the engine they will have an idle adjustment and another to change the mixture whilst its on throttle.. too rich will make it bog down and faulter - It will be very smokey! Lean it will get very hot very quickly and can also bog down.. its kinda in a different way though. Check on youtube for tuning guides :)

I would try adjusting it on the controller first. If it ran ok when you left it I'm sure it will be ok now with a tad of fine tuning.

sounds like you guys were running too rich, there shouldnt be loads of smoke, its difficult to explain but there must be a steady stream of it but not overwhelming

Used to be big into these before I got into Minis, 666junky's right there shouldnt be clouds of smoke but a nice even blue stream. My last one was a Tamiya TNX 5.2R and was scary fast, topped out at 55mph :D I have another one (forgotten the brand) that I started 4 years ago but never finished, itll get there one day!

Was it properly cleaned before you put it away? The fuel evaporates to a gummy residue over time and can cause poor running. Dropping the barrel and piston off and soaking for a few minutes in brake or carb cleaner helps. Lightly oil before putting it back together.

If you are finding that you need to alter the jets on a model engine it usually points to rubbish stuck in the carb (usually oil as the fuel evaporates) or the glow plug is on its way out. If it looks white instead of silver then it is probably on its way out and you find that you need to lean it off so it runs correctly at the top end but it won't idle correctly and cut out as you try to accelerate.

Screw your jets in and count the number of turns. Then unscrew them all the way out. Connect a piece of fuel tubing to the nipples on the carb and blow down it. This will push any rubbish out of the carbs. You can then reinstall them and can set them in roughly the correct place as you counted the number of turns.

Whenever someone has problems with an engine in an RC plane down the flying club I'm a member of, the above steps are the first thing I suggest and it solves about 95% of problems.

Mines been sat on the shelf for a few years now, Yada st. After putting it into a tree and having to rebuild the front it barley got used again :/

As above mine would always produce a little smoke, it took alot of adjusting on the carb and fuel mixture to get it right without cutting out or bogging down. Cleaned the filter? I would put a new glow plug in aswell seeing as its been stood.

thanks guys i will try those tips. i was going to have a play tonight when i got back from work but i was in the garage rubbing and primering a mini bonnet instead lol. i have put new filter pull start glow plugs and fuel in it and i give it a good clean up before i stopped using it i emptyed the fuel. i checked the engine over and its all nice and clean inside and still oily not bone dry. might just be the case let it tick over till its hot and then tune it slightly but it was running very good when i last used it. cheers tom

Is the fuel a different percentage? When I first got mine it would run terrible, after changing to a higher octane fuel (Think thats right) used for planes, it run 10x better.
