Hi;

I have removed the Handbrake Cable from the Handbrake to remove the Subframe but now the Subframe is off I am having trouble removing the cable from the subframe.

I have removed the Handbrake from the rear drums but cannot feed the bar with the spring tensioner on it through the gap in the subframe behind the Radius Arms, it just don't want to go.

This is the beasty I am referring to, before it was removed from the drum:

And this is the small gap that it is supposed to fit through? Sorry not a brill pic this is the gap as seen from the inside of the subby.

Am I supposed to remove the bar and spring tensioner from the cable? If so how as they appear to be fixed in place?

I have successfully removed the cable from the quadrants so this conundrum is the last hurdle, I think?

Ta

I managed everything so far by following a useful post I found on this site - thanks.

Where that small hole is should be a much larger gap. It looks as though it is blocked up with something. Crack out the wire brush and a pressure washer if you have one.

Believe or not this is after I pressure washed it with my Karcher 110 Bar Pressure Washer.

This is the best image I can find that shows the holes in the side for the cable to pass through.

It still looks like there is something wedged in that hole.

Just a daft q but have you released the cable from the quadrants on the raduis arm - "barrel" in the cable pinch fitted into the quadrant - large screwdriver prises apart to release..... (sorry for teaching to suck eggs if already done!!!!)

& ps that's one hell of a lot of crud!!!!

I was thinking that, and some of the crud looks scarily like crusty rust. OP- are you planning on the cleaning that back or is it being replaced anyway?

The triangle shaped hole where the cable goes through is plugged up with rust/grease/dirt. Tap around the cable with a drift to open the hole up then it should go through. Man that's plugged good and proper.

I seem to remember having similar trouble removing mine. I just cut the cable on both sides, new ones are pence

Can't quote as I'm posting from my phone. I have already removed the cable from the quadrants and when I get home I'll have a look to.see what's blocking the hole?

Ref the rust, you should see the rest of the sunny, reckon it's a gonner, hence why I'm stripping it down to see what I can salvage.

I'll need a cheap replacement pref collectable in the SW unless I can find a cheap courier?

Aha,

Just had another look in the cold light of day, the subby is on the ground at the moment upside down. That orange thing blocking the gap was actually the radius arm, once I sat on the hub and applied some pressure the radius arm cleared the gap sufficiently to prise out the handbrake cable.

I wish I had done this about a month ago as I was a stone heavier and sitting on a bare hub rim aint comfy!!!

I guess I should feed the new handbrake cables through before I re-attach the radius arm although i'll have to be careful to get them on the right side.

I have also notice when I lift up the radius arms (its upside down so that would be lowering them if it where the right way up) and take the pressure away from the cone and strut, the knuckle on the end of the strut is visible looks like there is a boot that has slipped off?

Is the boot at the end of the strut supposed to be fitted to the radius arm?
