Helicoil is the way forward, there are taped sump plugs but I'm not a fan.

There seem to be a flurry of sump plug problems at the moment.

See the thread linked below for additional information.

Over tightening usually due to coarse thread

I had one years ago, 1966 998 Cooper and the threads came out with the plug, no money, little engineering skills or facilities being a young teenager at the time.

I cleaned the area with paraffin, washed off and allowed to dry, I then stuck the plug back in and used fibreglass filler all around it and allowed to dry.

I then filled up with oil and it didn't leak. Next oil change I chipped it all off, drained the oil and fibre glassed it up again.

Now I am not recommending this as a solution to the problem as it is a bodge but it did for me at the time

A helicoil is the ONLY correct way to repair a damaged sump plug thread.

There are lots of threads regarding helicoils, do a search :-)
