Another snowboarder here. Not been doing it as long as some folk, a lot of my friends have been going for years and when I was given the chance to start up, I thought I was going to hold my friends up when I went on holiday with them.
I used to skateboard loads, so i had fairly good balance already (if i say so myself) I got myself some lessons on Groupon, rammed full of bargin hunters on the 1st lesson, it was slow going and all I wanted to do was progress. come the final lesson I was confident enough to zip down the indoor slope on my own.
But that said, its completly different on the side of a mountain, you have more chance to involve yourself in and have fun and once you get into it, its much easier to progress.
Certainly agree with the wrist gaurds, I've taken some mean tumbles which im sure would have wiped out my wrists had I not been wearing them, especially when you end up plunging them into powder.
Best fun has gotta be popping off piste onto a fresh bit of powder the morning after a downfall, especially if you manage to grab some air
If you really get into it, some of the indoor places hold freestyle nights where you can try out jumps and rails... there's always a 10 year old whos doing huge grabs over and down a kinked rail, but it still feels awesome to try some new stuff out for yourself.
My last holiday was in Tignes, fantastic resort and huge veriaty in runs it does lacks tree lines (another fav of mine and the group I go with) got some fairly good GoPro footage, but editing has been put off too easily!
Previous year I went to Avoriaz, which was just stunning, great runs, a couple of excellent snow parks, catering for a mix in capability across the mountain.
