The car wont be on the road for more than 3-5 years as i want to turn this shell into a racer (hillclimber), but dont want to have to re-do all this work at the point i convert it, so need a bit of advice when it comes to painting it.
A friend has given me a good technique to paint the shell, im only doing the underside at the moment, but im a little unsure on what paint to use. I hear good things about POR15, but i dont know which one to use as there are a LOT and not really definative descriptions. POR15 products:
Tri-coat primer
Rust preventative paint
Chasis black
Black coat (already have)
Self etching primer
Metal ready (already have)
Solvent
I've got the metal ready which i've already used on the a-post repairs which seems to have worked well, but im not sure what i should be using on the floor? The initial plan was to (after replacement panels were fitted) strip, wash down with spirits, apply metal ready, then probably tri-coat primer and finally chasis black? Or should i be using rust preventative paint? Or somthing completely different?
As you've guessed im a complete noob when it comes to paint, so some suggestions would be appriciated. Im also concidering just using any old high zinc content primer and some stone chip as it wont be on for long or do very much work.
Pic shows the shell in current state, still needing further stripping and repair panels to be fitted.
