Hi all I am after a Janspeed exhaust, the one fitted to the Grand Prix as standard. I know this is a hell of a long shot but its worth a try.

I am also after some JCG bits -

signed auxiliary gauges

wheel centre caps

air valve locking caps

signed window wiper/door release items

If anyone has any other JCG items, I might be interested depending on what it is and the price etc.

Thanks.

i had my new exhaust system fitted today by Tony Franks. The system was made by Janspeed as a replica of the one on Tanya's Tommy. I asked Tony about the Grand Prix exhaust back box as it looks similar to the original S pack. He said it is similar but not identical as the injection boxes were a bit flatter.

I do not know if you have seen the Cooper brochure from around 1995. One of the conversion kits advertised was the Super Kit, MCC1275SS. This was the same as installed in the Grand Prixs. There is a good illustration of the kit and I think the back box was the same for all the SPi S kits. The funny thing is that either side of the illustration is one of two halves of a photo of Mike and John Cooper and Tony Franks having a conversion around a Mini engine bay.

I know from the service record of my car the original S pack back box only lasted 5 years and 10k miles so I am afraid it is unlikely that you will find any originals around now. But there are enough owners with SPi S conversions around to have them remade providing you have a minimum order of ten. RSP owners seem to be more of a community particularly with Tanya's energy and enthusiasm. The boxes were originally mild steel but we opted for stainless steel in the remakes for a longer life.

Minidizzy, thanks that is quite useful. I emailed a guy at Janspeed. He got back in touch with a picture, probably from that catalogue with the parts circled that they [he and some other employees] think I need. I have been in touch with the same guy you got your exhaust from as well, a really nice chap actually. He is planning on getting some more exhausts made up, and I am getting mine done in Mild Steel. They are a lot of money though for an exhaust! I have no idea why anyone would have taken it off the GP and put something else on!!

M&P, yeah I saw your stuff but at that stage I hadn't been to view the car to see what it had etc. I saw that Mike Cooper is planning on bringing a lot of the genuine JCG stuff back. There is an interesting thread on the MCR forum about the numerous fake parts that were on ebay etc. Some people were spending quite a bit of money to receive sub-standard unofficial items.

I have one of the Janspeed exhausts sourced through Roger too and it's a quality piece of kit. They're expensive but adding that originality to the car is well worth it.
