Had a fuel issue last week and I have noticed this before but the fuel line is less than an inch from the hot manifold. IS this normal/dangerous and is there any kind of shield one can get to separate the two.

Many thanks

This is normal on some mini's - but not good in my eyes , & I have gone over to an electric pump for this very reason

you could get some heat shield wrap & wrap the pipe & the exhaust where it is close (not ideal)

the bit that annoyed me was the pump outlet pointing towards the exhaust

some older pumps had movable outlet / inlet , but newer ones were crimped in position

I would also be interested in solutions to this , as not keen on the electric pump

Unfortunately this is something you have to live with having a Mini.

Not  a lot of choice, that is why the outlet to carb should have a small amount of rubber pipe connecting the metal pipe to the carb. An inch and half of rubber pipe then the metal should be fine, otherwise it is use the electric pump option, not much choice.

Thanks for the reply. I am curious of opinions on this. I have braided stainless steel rubber hoses at the rear tank. Can I use this hose to replace the ones at the carb and fuel pump or is straight rubber ones best.

Many thanks

Use braided if you like, providing the solid section that runs behind the manifold is still there. You cannot replace this with any kind of flexible hose. While the manifold is not generally hot enough to ignite fuel on contact it will melt a rubber hose. The fuel isn't flammable inside the pipe because there is no oxygen with it and liquid fuel doesn't burn anyway but if you melt the hose and release fuel you will have a problem.

The best would be replacing the early type mech fuel pump with the later type used on HIF44 carb'ed coopers, these pumps will make you fuel line easily clear any aftermarket LCB exhaust.

As above, retain the steel fuel line.
