Hi guys,

I know theres a few metro owners here so i'd thought i'd ask.

Can you fit mini steels straight onto a metro? I know you have to modify the hubs for minilites but what about steels?

Cheers

You can mate, just don't lower it too much as the offset of the wheels if different so they will sit further out in the arch

Yeah i'm not planning on lowering any time soon. It's been on the metroownersclub that i will need to remove the lug things in the middle of the hub?

Yes you do, the mini steels won't quite fit over the hub lugs, they're easy enough to remove though :D

i know in the other thread you said you didnt want to spend much, but to prevent having to cut the lugs off, and to prevent the car looking silly, there are a few sets of pepperpots on ebay at the minute, and there was a set of cross spokes on the other day, i would see if you can scrape some cash together for a set of those rather than mess getting something else on that doesnt fit right

im not sure what your situation is but i would hang on if you can mate, there are always more sets popping up on there.

how about changing your rear hubs to rover metro ones, then you can fit rover 13" steels and alloys, and re-drill/stud the front hubs to accept the rover pcd? fairly simple job if you take your time and measure up carefully

The main reason behind wanting to change them is the fact that one tyre came very close to bursting in a matter of minutes and i really dont trust the rest. If i was going to go to the effort of swapping hubs etc, i'd probably swap to the mini hubs as i prefer the choice of wheels haha

you pretty much already have mini hubs on, as the pcd is obviously the same. its the offset thing that screws up fitting mini wheels.

metro wheels are like a bucket, with the bottom facing outwards, mini wheels are like a bucket but with the top facing out, they are totaly wrong for each other

Oh i see. If they share the same bearings etc, then surely it wouldnt be too much of a problem? The standard steels on mine sit well inside the Arches

standard steels arnt so much a problem, but if you wanted to get something like a 7x13 minilight in there, you end up with a good inch of wheel outside the arch, which means lowering it is a non starter, and rubbing will be a problem on the front arches at any height.

i have seen quite a few metros with minilights on and badly pulled/roller arches, if the rear arches are rotten though, cutting them off and making some wider ones would get rid of the rust atleast!
