Morning Folks!

 

Just a quick one. I'm just in the process of building my engine back up. I have a vernier duplex set up, and not running a tensioner. Are there any disadvantages to not putting the tensioner bolts in the backplate? Obviously they go into the block so would provide a bit more anchorage for the backplate, but equally there are many more also going into the block. 

 

What have other people done? Is it just adding pointless weight to put bolts in there?

I usually fit a bolt there, to be its helping keep the back plate in place and helping with the gasket seal.

There's certainly a hole in the end plate to seal if you leave it out.

you say bolts has it all was been  duplex 

if not you have to use countersunk screws 

and countersunk the back plate to fit

I have indeed fitted the two countersunk screws that are under the crank sprocket, the ones that i'm referring to are the two that are out of line of the chain, which would've held the chain tensioner in place if I had decided to use one.

+1 for putting them in, with a drop of thread lock to make sure they stay put.

I did mine last weekend and put them back in. Easiest way to fill the gap and not loose the bolts should it ever go back to a simplex

Yes, re-fit them using a bit of Loctite.
