Anyone else read the write up in the mini magazine regards the use of poly over rubber?
Apparently poly can be good for certain parts of the car to replace the oe rubber spec, but on other parts, say like the front bump stop, there saying do not use poly as they are a lot harder and will not absorb being hit, and to always use rubber ones.
They also mention, as pressure is applied on certain areas of bushes, that the poly will expand and not contract over time, unlike rubber which will leave any poly bush loose on the shaft.
I already have these fitted in places where they mention not to use poly, so wondering now if to replace them for oe rubber.
Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

The only place you should need to fit poly bushes is the rear subframe, bumpstops should never be poly as you rightly say, they don't absorb anything.

For the front subframe, either solid or rubber.

Most poly bushes made are actually of very bad quality so they can fail prematurely and quite suddenly.

I think Minispares do a half poly half rubber kit, either for tie rods or bottom arms but I can't remember which!

This is meant to give enough flexibility but firms things up!

I've never used it though

I wouldnt fit poly to the bottom arms. They distort and then the car starts to wander. I had this issue with mine as the previous owner had replaced every single rubber bush with poly.

I think all my front suspension is all poly to, from what the previous owner has fitted.Perhaps I should see which part of the front suspension requires rubber over poly.

My rear subframe is poly bushed, was like that when I got it.

ive fitted standard rebound rubbers, standard bump stops. The half poly half rubber tiebar kit. Front subframe is solid mounted.

New standard knuckles, coil springs and gaz adjustable shockers.

I need to do the lower arm bushes, these will be done in standard rubber too.

I've been running polly bushes on the low arms and tie bars of the daily for the past 8 years. Along with the rear subframe, front subframe tower bolts and bump stops for the last 3 years, with no such problems. And being a daily its also gets the usual speed ramps, pot holes and up/down curbs etc abuse.
