Hi, after cranking my (newly rebuilt) engine trying to prime the fuel pump and struggling to get any petrol through I resorted to sucking a mouthful of petrol (not recommended Lol) before it would prime and reach the carb, I thought once pumping it was a bit 'frothy' but.. anyway after my dinner, popped out and the stink of petrol was overwhelming, seems the fuel pump was leaking from a small hole underneath and further inspection revealed the diaphragm was shot, Question is, will replacing the original 1275 Hif38 mechanical fuel pump (93 Carbed 1275 Rio) be OK to use with an Hif44?

In short yes but 1275cc engines after 1990 on with HIF38 carbs, has a 5/16" (8mm) inlet which makes it unique to this model, so if you have a HIF 44 then the outlet is the same size 1/4 bore. There is a special pump for the HIF44 carbs made but the normal pump can supply enough fuel.

I tried to buy one of the 8mm pumps recently. I think they are discontinued. I am running my new Weber on a 1330 stage 4 engine
with a standard 998 mech pump. Rolling roaded at 115.9 BHP so standard will surely be up to the job.

would go for solid state though, like the facet 3 psi ones.. No need for a regulator either ;)
