Im in the process of re-doing the head for my 1293 engine.

I just wanted some information about what valves, guides, springs and caps to go for?

I had a look on the MED site and saw that they tend to use silicon bronze guides in their heads, are these a good idea, and would a specific type of valve need to be used with them?

Does anyone have any ideas of the best options to go for on these bits, and maybe where to get them from?

Thanks
Mike

Valve guide selection is often a heated debate. The Mini isn't common in the U.S. so when I asked this question I included the MG-Midget/AH-Sprite owners in my query. There was no consensus. However, the more senior people I spoke with said that for a street engine there is absolutely nothing wrong with the cast iron guides. Many said that the bronze guides wore a little quicker regardless of whether the car was for the street or track. There was also mention of matching the guide material to that used in the valve stems. Sorry... I don't remember the upshot of that. I hope others more in the know will post here.

I can't comment on the type of valves, springs, or keepers. I don't have much experience there.

I no engine builder, but Rimflo valves are a well known top make. The poundage of the springs should be carefully matched with the rocker ratio and the camshaft your using. Also, most of the top engine builders like to use Iskie springs for high performance engines.

If you use stainless steel valves you should use Bronze guides to prevent gauling and seizure... personally I use them in preference to iron guides

I was planning on using some 1.5 roller tip rockers, along with the MG cam that came in the engine. The only iskie springs i have seen are race springs (220lb) which i thought would be too much. Do iskie do smaller rate springs, what would be the preferred poundage for my spec?

Thanks
Mike
