So the question, I know I'll need a pulley and a spacer, however the fan is not central to the cowling. Any ideas why this could be so, and or, the best way to rectify it.

The cowling and engine mount bracketary, are from a 1979 1098 clubman estate, the fan is a steel export one. The thermostat housing to cowling bracket is an eBay special. The engine and gearbox are 1992 1275 cooper. The head is a 12g940 "flat top" kind. The thermostat housing is a mini spares item.

Thanks

It's difficult to see from the top picture but the top and bottom vanes look equidistant from the cowling, only the centre vane looks further away but if my memory serves the cowling is slightly oval not circular so that may be what makes it look odd.

I don't think there is a problem as long as the blades are not fouling the cowling.

My poor pictures don't show it at all well, but you can see once it is spaced out as it should be, that it will indeed foul on the cowling :/

maybe top braket is the wrong one for your engine

Also the fan looks too close to the breather, it may catch on either the breather canister or its vent pipe

you need a later flat breather timing gear cover

also bend the bottom bracket to suit
