He machines down the titanium and puts thread on either side for the spacer and then tightens them up on the rose joints.

And it works, cant see why tapping a thread in would be any harder?

EDIt - The titanium would be male ends

rose joints are female, so he wouldnt have used a tap unless he tapped it and put a steel thread all the way through and screwed the rose joints on.

all in all, unless its a serious competition car where every 0.5g counts, using titanium is pointless

They were made for his Jaguar XK8 track day car, has 8 jenvey throttle bodies, T56 manual gearbox, stand alone ECU, and so much more other bits and pieces. He placed them up on the jag forum and everyone threw money at him to make some for them, especially in the states. I guess people just quiver at the word titanium and can use it for bragging rights.

But this is going a tad OT. I think i will risk it and get them if i can and have a go at tapping them. Even if they just send me out one, it doesn't hurt to try.

So how much is a nut costing?

I will find out tomorrow, i will give them a ring early morning.

They may turn around and say no. So nothing is for sure yet.

after running and building a full no expense spared caterham and making all (apart from load bearing) bolts from Ti and spacers, id advise against it.  just going to be such a pain in the arse. make them from ally.

Turns out the smallest nuts they do is m12. And they can't provide nuts required for what I want to do.

Options are to put metric studs in. Or just simply buy covers for my current nuts, didn't want to do that. But without spending a chunk of money (which the Mrs won't approve, ahh) covers seems the best option.

Fit metric studs. Only thing to be wary of us that the holes in the hub with teeth on will be imperial, so may be a loose or tight fit. Personally I'd drill the hubs to a metric size, fit metric studs and then some fancy wheelnuts:).
