    One Carb Or Two?

I've just been looking at the setup on my SPi engine, that is without it in the car ad without a carb yet. Excuse my lack of knowledge here because I have yet to open up the distributor but does it have points? Or will I need to purchase electronic ignition to go with the setup?

Surely if it's an SPI then it's fuel injection and so doesn't have a carb?

Single point injection does not have a carb.

If you're planning on running the injection engine on carb, which of course is possible, you will need to change the dizzy, run the ECU as just a timing device or change to an after market mappable ignition system and do away with the izzy completely...

If you take of the dizzy cap, all you'll find in there is a rotor arm.

Thanks. so basically I bought this as a new engine from Mini Spares to go into my 1275, I have no other electrics with it except a standard 1978 setup, so I'm guessing change the distributor and fit electronic ignition? I'm going to fit twin 11/4 carbs. Would that make sense?

As you're starting from scratch I would be tempted to say do away with the carbs... unless you already have them...

Once you add up the price of dizzy's, carbs, tuning  etc etc etc

I'd be tempted to chuck an off the shelf injection throttle body system at and be done with it... probably work out cheaper and you'll get much better performance and economy out of the engine. Especially as it's new.

I have twin carbs and I don't want to fit an injection system, would prefer the traditional setup. I'm happy working with twin SU's, run a spitfire in my spare time. What would be the recommended setup for electronic ignition for this engine? I think I have a piranha system on the triumph which has been excellent? Cost really isn't an issue with this car.

Thanks for the swift reply.

Run a metro dizzy 59D ( already electronic ) for a cheap fix...

or these are relatively new to the market and have great potential...

If it has an SPi engine number won't it have to pass a cat emissions test?

Depending on the age of the car, the test goes on what is older, car or engine
