So there were only 100 Cooper Sports LEs produced - supposedly 50 in green, 50 in black.

As far as I can tell the Cooper Sports LE is the same as the Rover Mini BSCC Ltd found in Japan.

But… there have been over 25 Rover Mini BSCC Ltd's go through Japanese auction houses in the last four months.

Something tells me there are more than 100 of these...

Is there a way for checking using chassis numbers?

Anyone of know how many were automatic and how many were manual?

There were 750 BSCCs. I cannot see any difference between the Cooper Sports LE and the BSCC except that for 1997 and later Minis there were mechanical differences between standard and Japanese cars. The standard had an MPi engine while the Japanese export had an MPi/SPi hybrid plus air conditioning.
