Cracked Sump

Cracked my sump the other day on a speed bump and it's loosing a lot of oil. What's the best way to fix this problem.. Cheers jack

engine out and new gearbox casing on, or perhaps weld it ? not easy

A good man on the TIG could possibly do it in situ... all depends on position and if the crack can be cleaned out

get it ally welded, for now, buy a new engine do any work you want on that replace the old one

You need to take the engine off the gearbox, thoroughly clean it all out then find someone who can weld aluminium. If you have difficulty in finding someone, look for a light aircraft repair and overhaul facility in your area. They will know someone who can do it.

It is not usually necessary to have to strip the gears out unless it is a huge crack. I had my 'S' gearbox welded on my rally car years ago and it is still fine after many more events. It was welded by a CAA Approved welder who owns an aircraft business (for free - he owed me a few favours!).
