Installing Gaskets - Should I Be Using Gasket Sealer?

Best Answer sledgehammer , 02 March 2014 - 02:15 PM

I use sealer on the half moon seal & where gaskets join in different directions

but rarely for anything else

sometimes gasket sealer breaks away inside the engine & can restrict the strainer & generally be a pain

I also used some on gear selector shaft bush (outside surface)

but some love it

Hi,

I've stripped the gearbox, water pump, timing cover clutch housing and flywheel housing from the engine and the cylinder head.

I'm about to start putting everything back together and i've started to read they workshop manual which says nothing about using gasket sealer anywhere. I know its not standard fro Head gaskets but what about the others?

Is it standard to use gasket sealer on paper gaskets or do they self seal when tightened to the correct torque?

Thanks in advance.
