Hi all

I have changed a automatic for a manual.
I can't get into reverse but I can select all other gears
And in first the car moves but no reverse

Have any of you guys had this problem ?
Could you let me know how to fix this please.

Dave is the clutch 100% disengaging - this can impact selecting reverse?

Will it go in if the engine is not running?  You should hear a clunk as it's selected?

If it's a rod change box is everything at the connection end with the tranny free to move?

Do you know 100% that the box worked in reverse before the swap.

Soz for so many questions ...but it may help isolate it a bit more.

Tks, yes the clutch is disengaging

It will go into gear when not running

Every thing is free to move I rebuilt the box

Would it matter which way the roll pin is in at the linkage at the gearbox end?

Does it grind when you try to put it in gear with the engine running, it may be the clutch is grabbing/not disengaging fully

Hmmm the clutch is working fine. Yes it does grid going into
Gear but also it's moving forward !
Don't know what is going on. Maybe the gear linkage is set up wrong!
But it looks fine

If it is going into all forawrd gears and not reverse and it is grinding, I would be looking at the clutch adsuming your gearbox has synchros on all forward gears, what clutch have you got?

Ya that seems to be fine as I'm getting all gears, that
Is all forward gears
The grinding has stopped cause I unscrewed the
Reverse light switch, but again when in reverse it's driving forward

Cheers

Dave, to try to be clear, are you saying that with the reversing light switch removed it stops it graunching when you select a gear? That is strange if it's the case.

Are you also saying that when reverse is selected it is in a forward gear? If so, do you know which gear it is in?

It is going to be difficult to diagnose this remotely, but it sounds like a linkage issue inside the 'box.

Hi Pete,

Ya it did stop grinding into gear when I took out the reverse light switch
I don't know what gear it's in n reverse but it's going forward

Is it possible that the gear lever mechanism of the gear change is upside down ?

Yes but I don't think you would be able to get it in gear at all if the selector rod was upside down

When you built the box did you select all the gears dave? Watching the 1/2/3/4 and reverse slot in ? very little external which would not allow reverse to select? very odd. If you can get the roll pin out and then select the gears manually there then if it selects ok its in the remote, otherwise inside the box.

Silly question....

Is it a rod change gearbox ?

You know you need to lift the gearstick to get it into reverse ?
