The next things to check are the vacuum hoses, air cleaner to inlet manifold, inlet manifold to petrol trap, petrol trap to ECU. The hoses them selves are generally OK but the connections are prone to cracking or becoming loose. Blow trough the petrol trap as well, if no joy with this the wiring for the coolant temperature sender can sometimes be suspect. What's your idle speed like? Steady at about 8-900 or erratic and higher? Possible fuel filter...... Supposed to be changed ever 24000 or 2 years according to Rover.

My mpi did this. Absolutely annoying and embarrassing. Just fixed my problem, it was the exhaust manifold.

Hi 0208brian1 I am having exactly the same problem, I drive a Mini Cooper S 07 and so far have had most of the manifold cleaned and the high pressure fuel pump replaced but still have the same problem.
My garage has just told me that the high pressure air pump needs to be replaced, I'm a bit untrusting of any mechanics and am not sure if the diagnisis is correct. Being a small island I dont have the choice of where to send the car and am using the dealership.

Help any ideas?

Emma
