Now I've got some time and spare cash I'm looking for a project

I started off looking at various high powered modern things to "mess" with

Then I realised I already have one of those and I actually want something to "tinker" with

I got to thinking about all sorts of classics, overlooking Minis

The I remembered my first car "a few decades ago" an orange 998 which by necessity needed a lot of attention

Then I remembered the original Cooper and 1275GT I had shortly afterwards (I blame the later for my OCD to mod and tinker with cars)

 

I got thinking I like the idea of a Cooper estate with a "decent" engine and a Webasto roof

Could be an interesting summer!

Estates are fantastic load carriers, they are spacious with the back seat down and will carry washing machines, fridges, all the camping equipment you will ever need, a months supermarket shop, etc. etc. The roof is huge so a couple of roof bars and you can carry long items like exhaust systems, timber, mattresses, etc.

Just like any other Mini to work on. Stick in any engine you like.

And the woody is IMHO one of the prettiest cars on the road.

I'm thinking an injected engine of some sort might be good?

I'm in the same kind of boat, back to minis after some 25 or thirty years and bought a clubby estate.  I won't be hoiking the roof out of it though!

Yep those ribs in the roof may cause some challenges?

It did occur to me I'd lose some rigidity

Might be "safer" not to do that
