Hi,

I tried to use the search option here but it did not come up with a final answer on the following:

Which is the correct silver for steel wheels on a 70s Mini? Is there an official paint code?

I am restoring a '78 "continental" Mini Special 1100 in Germany to its original specs (which are different from the UK Mini Special version): Vermillion red body, black vinyl roof and silver steel wheels. The wheels will be media blasted and shall then be painted in the correct colour.

The car itself is still in pieces. I hope to have the shell done by the summer.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Andy

Try Saab silver? (Its the silver in my avatar, which is also an extremely close match to chrome

Thanks, but I was trying to find out about the original paint code BL used in the late 70s for Mini wheels. I do not want to make it a science but I would like to get as close as possible to the original appearance.

Looking at my wheels, I also doubt that a colour having "an extremely close match to chrome" is adequate for a restoration to original specs.

Anybody else an idea?

Thanks,

Andy

Silver Birch Metallic is the colour. Dulux book lists two different Silver Birch Metallic.

Leyland 1964 Trim: Silver Birch Met 06968
Leyland 1971/72 Trim: Silver Birch Met 13260

Thanks, mk3 Cooper S for pointing me in that direction!
