LOL, yes she does have a bit of a thirst, but I can imagine the struggle an A series whould have to move her on the flat, let alone up a hill! :P

you can pick up old skool range rovers and discovery's extremely cheaply now. Insurance is cheap as well if you go with NFU Mutual. If you get the diesel versions they don't drink a lot of fuel, parts are cheap, they are easy to work on, and they will do pretty much anything

Get a volkswagen Jetta or if you like hatches you could probably find a cheap polo but I always see Jettas for sale for cheap. Just had a quick look at the VZi forum and theres a cheap auto mk golf in manchester if you're willing to drive an auto, £125 can't be bad with 11 months MOT.

Fiat all the way. Had my cinq for 2 years and it's not given me any bother at all. Very low insurance class for the 899 version. I get about 45ish mpg so very economical. Plus they're about mini sized and they handle well too.

As for the post above, wish I could find a decent Punto for under £400. They are still going for prices far higher than that, very few under a grand!!!!

there are hundreds of punto's on a 94 / 95 / 96 plate are plentiful under the £500 mark !!

looky here !!
punto

or here ..another punto !!

or here ... yet another punto !?!

Had a Reno 19 (1400) on a J plate that was hard as nails.. lovely gearbox. took a thrashing every day and stayed strong

now got a 1600 golf mk2 on a g plate. was only 400 quid with 4new tires and a full tank!! low miles aswell (not sure how expensive insurance is for new driver)

Alternatively, Nova Saloons if you can find them,I had one of them while my mini was off the road. Never had a proper nova (dont want one cus of the boy racer folllowing) but they are good cars and you get away with it if you get a saloon...

either way get something BIG with a boot...you'll love the comforts over the mini, and when you get back in your mini you'll love the mini so much more!

Garagiste, did you steal my car, take photos of it and then return it?? :)

thats incredible, my car has a twin! what is the spec of yours? mine is an '84 998 mayfair thats bog standard apart from an RC40 exhaust, 12x5 black revolutions, a K&N filter and some crappy cheap arches. :P

i seen an old BX up for grabs that was MOT'd till the end of august. it was 1.9 diesel but had done 320,000 (we once had a 1.7 diesel BX a few years back ['96 I believe] and we sold it in perfect working order with 250,000 and i swear i seen it a few months ago still on the trot!) for £175ono. the RAC gave me a quote online for £1000 TPFT on a car thts worth less than £200!!! i'm gonna phone them 2moro to see what the deal is and see if they can cut it down because my 1st quote for the Mini was £1400 (17 y/o, just got my license) but with pass plus and this scheme thing they put me on they got me down to £790 so i'm sure i can barter with them.

i would like a "big" car, i say big, but anything is bigger than a mini! i like kingcreaky's point of getting a car with a boot and comfort so i can remember what i'm missing. if i get the insurance sorted out, i'll see about the BX at the weekend and get things rolling!
