Picture says it all really....

I'm putting A+ flat tops into my A series block. Apparently it can be done as they're 'exactly the same'. I offered two other pistons with their con rod and the A+ ones definitely look a bit longer...

How has this happened????! Anyone got any answers/suggestions???

Thanks,

Iain.

I don't suppose this has happened because the piston and con rod are the wrong way round???

The A+ flat top piston number is: 21964 G8
The A dished piston number is: M2007 C4W

Have both the A and A+ cranks got the same stroke?

There was a different rod for the press fit pistons. Not sure if it was a different length though. Are the rods correct for the pistons?

The flat tops and con rods came out of another engine as whole units, so yes they're the right rods for the right pistons.

I have just came across this from another thread...

Here's a comparison..

Left - Dished pistons that were in the engine

Right - Flat tops out of an A+ 998

The 1098 issue is because the crank is a longer stroke and has shorter rods than the 998, so not relevant to your problem if they both originated from 998's.

The piston on the right looks like the late model press fit.

I just looked up my crank number (12G82)

And according to this, it's an 1100cc crank, which has a longer stroke. I'm going to need the crank that my flat tops and rods came off!

That's why I asked for the numbers! 1100s use exactly the same rods as 998s, the extra stroke is taken up with shorter pistons as seen here. So you have to choose which engine you want to build I suppose.

It does look like the piston on the right is taller as the bottom of the arm is lower?
